Akhtar Nawab is an award-winning chef and restaurateur with a 20-year career. His current restaurants include: Alta Calidad, creativa moderna Mexican, Brooklyn, NY; Alta Calidad Taqueria (ACTQ), fast-casual Mexican food with locations in Brooklyn, New Orleans, and Omaha; Otra Vez, creativa moderna Mexican, sister restaurant to Alta Calidad, New Orleans, LA; PratherGs on the Alley, American fine dining restaurant, Washington, DC. Akhtar was an early mentor to David Chang and worked with Tom Colicchio in the kitchens of Gramercy Tavern, Craftbar, and Craft, the latter of which received three stars from the New York Times and won the James Beard FoundationGs 'Best New Restaurant' Award during NawabGs tenure at the helm. Later, he was the executive chef of East Village gastropub The E.U., during which time he received the StarChefs 'Rising Star Chef' award, and through the opening of his first proprietary restaurant, Elettaria, which landed him a spot on Food NetworkGs Iron Chef America and inclusion in Coco: 10 World-leading Masters Choose 100 Contemporary Chefs (Phaidon, 2009). Alta Calidad was awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2018. Andrea Strong has been writing about food for nearly twenty years. She is best known as the author of The Strong Buzz, one of the food industryGs first and more celebrated restaurant blogs, which she founded in 2003. She appears regularly on Eater NY and Eater, and has written for the New York Times, Food Republic, Newsday, Architectural Digest, Delta Sky, Serious Eats, Edible, Saveur, New York Magazine, and Food Network, amongst others. She was included in The Best Food Writing of 2016 for the article she wrote, 'Why Bakers Have Serious Mother Issues.' This is the second time she has been included in this book; the first was for the story she wrote on Sloppy Joes for the New York Times in 2002. AndreaGs first cookbook, Sparks in the Kitchen (Knopf), was written with chef Katy Sparks.
