This title is a Joan's Pick.
Kate is a lawyer with a carefully constructed life and persona, which has made her unrecognisable to those who knew her back in the day. When she prosecutes a Junior Minister in the British government for rape, theres a lot going on in court - history, lies, vengeance, and the potential for justice - set alongside the privileged aura of Westminster, with its entrenched privilege and status.
There's a great premise underlying this story, and the themes are not a million miles away from the #MeToo campaign, although for me, the strongest resonance was with Apple Tree Yard. Readers who, like me, loved that book may like this as much as I did.
