I've only just discovered Mick Herron's books, and it's a shame it took me so long. They're all wonderful - terrifically well informed, wry and well constructed stories set in the world of the British Secret Service, and what I really love about them is that they're more about the interplay of the staff of that organisation than they are about the baddies they're here to protect us from.
In this latest one, River Cartwright is a spy, and is the grandson of a former head of the service. Grandad's getting on, and seems to have a touch of dementia - but what then unravels is a brilliant piece of plotting and characterisation, and I couldn't put it down. Joan.
